Compliance Resources
Helpful links, answers to common questions, and definitions of key terms for business registration, nonprofit formation, and charitable compliance.
IRS processing for Form 1023 typically averages 3–6 months, while Form 1023-EZ (for smaller organizations) is often faster. Timelines vary based on IRS workload and application completeness.
What's the difference between Form 1023 and Form 1023-EZ?
Form 1023-EZ is a streamlined application available to organizations with projected annual gross receipts of $50,000 or less and total assets under $250,000. Larger or more complex organizations must file the full Form 1023.
Do I need to register in every state where I fundraise?
Most states require charitable organizations to register before soliciting donations from residents of that state, even online. Requirements and exemptions vary by state — our team can help identify which states apply to your fundraising activities.
What's the difference between an LLC and a Corporation?
An LLC offers liability protection with flexible, pass-through taxation and simpler management. A Corporation is better suited for businesses seeking outside investors or planning to issue stock, and can elect S-Corp or C-Corp tax treatment.
What documents will I need to get started?
Requirements vary by service, but commonly needed documents include Articles of Incorporation, Bylaws, EIN confirmation, financial statements or budgets, and a list of officers/directors. Each application checklist on our platform lists exactly what's needed for your specific filing.
Can I upgrade from a Small Business Starter bundle to full nonprofit services later?
Yes. You can start a new application for additional services at any time from your Watch Tower, and our team can advise on the best path if your organization's needs change.

Our Story
About Compliance Watchers
We help nonprofits and businesses get compliant, stay compliant, and keep more of what they raise.
Why We Started
Compliance Watchers was founded after our owner watched a nonprofit organization lose the majority of its funding — not because its mission failed, but because another compliance company overcharged them for services that should have been affordable and transparent. Money that should have gone toward helping people instead went toward inflated fees, and the organization never fully recovered. That experience became the reason Compliance Watchers exists.
Our Mission
We believe compliance shouldn't be the thing that holds an organization back. Whether you're launching a new nonprofit, registering a business, or expanding your fundraising into new states, our goal is to handle the paperwork, filings, and deadlines so you can focus on the work that actually matters — your mission.
What Sets Us Apart
We take pride in offering some of the best prices in the market. Every fee we charge is shown upfront, before you commit to anything — no hidden costs, no surprise invoices, and no sales calls required just to learn what something costs. We believe organizations should be able to see exactly what they're paying for and know they're getting a fair deal.
Who We Serve
We work with nonprofits of every size and category — from brand-new 501(c)(3) public charities to established organizations expanding their fundraising across state lines — as well as small business owners forming LLCs, corporations, and other entities. No organization is too small, and no compliance need is too complex.
